Orca Industries was officially opened in 1993 by owner Duncan Pattenden. Orca’s speciality is Scuba Diving, Training and Mountain Climbing, and over the years Orca Industries has grown into a ‘one stop Diving & Outdoor Specialist’!
Orca Industries strives to make life easier for the client, providing the following goods and services all at one place:
- Retail Shop: Orca offers a full range of World-Class diving, hiking, climbing and trail running equipment and accessories.
- Workshop: Services and repairs diving equipment and gear. Manufactures, services and repairs local and international outdoor equipment.
- Gear & Equipment Hire: Orca rents out a variety of diving & outdoor equipment such as snorkels, masks, fins, wetsuits, cylinders, tents and backpacks to name a few.

The Team

Duncan Pattenden
Owner
Duncan opened Orca’s doors in 1993, and his business and circle of friends, has been growing steadily ever since! Duncan loves diving and is qualified as a PADI and CMAS Dive Instructor. He has been on numerous “wreck-hunting” expeditions and has dived in some of the most beautiful parts of the world, including here! Duncan is also qualified as a SASCA (South African Small Craft Association) and SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) instructor and runs our skipper courses and even carries out boat inspections. In addition to diving, Duncan enjoys hiking, underwater photography and touring around parts of Africa on his motorbike.

Staff Manager
As the staff manager, Maxine keeps the staff on their toes making sure all jobs are completed to perfection. She is also in charge of running, maintaining, and coordinating our dive school. Maxine has a passion for the outdoors and enjoys hiking and scuba diving.

Jonathan Marais
Accounts manager
Jonathan has been a part of the Orca team from the very beginning and has gained an in-depth wealth of knowledge from being active on the shop floor as well as out in the field. He is the go-to person for any information, particularly relating to hiking and diving. Jonathan will be able to assist you with any query you may have and will surely provide you with the answers you need. On the more serious side, he is in charge of all of Orca’s financial business, but can’t wait to go exploring the Cape’s mountains when away from the office!

Sacha joined Orca in February of 2012. She is our front line of defence and always ready to greet customers with a helpful smile. Sacha manages all of Orca’s paperwork, and as a customer, you will most likely have the pleasure of working with her. She is very well travelled and enjoys walking and hiking.

Craig Dedricks comes from a commercial diving background and is dedicated to expanding his wealth of knowledge when it comes to diving equipment. Craig sees safety as his top priority and is a stickler for perfection. A reliable, honest person to work with, if Craig has your gear you know that you are getting the best.

David Marais
Sales and Dive Academy Course Convener
David has been with Orca for as long as most customers can remember. He loves rock-climbing but is knowledgeable in all the areas that Orca deals with. He will go out of his way to make sure that you get whatever answers you need and then, whatever products or services you may require. David is always ready to speak to customers and has formed many lasting relationships with them. A caring, helpful person to deal with on the shop floor, as well as a force to be reckoned with on the paintball field!

Uri Steyn
Cylinder Technician
Uri is in charge of the testing of all cylinders and has been involved in the outdoor and retail field for a number of years. Always hard at work managing a great workload with impeccable ease and enjoyment. When not at work, Uri’s passion is climbing! He goes climbing as often as possible and is frequently leading hikes up Table Mountain and numerous other trails in and around Cape Town. Uri has his level 3 First Aid qualification and volunteers for City Of Cape Town Disaster Management in his free time.

Bongiwe has been with us since 2014 and is responsible for servicing and oxygen cleaning valves. She also assists in the co-ordinating of cylinders in and out of the workshop. Bongiwe is a quick learner and problem solver, and is always ready to lend a helping hand.

Tsidie helps keep the shop in great shape! Responsible for merchandising and stock monitoring, Tsidie is always smiling and helpful. Although she is not a diver, Tsidie is keen on joining outdoor activities.
